Simon Cowell always wanted Nicole Scherzinger as a judge on the US X Factor according to her former manager.
The Poison singer replaced British convicted criminal Cheryl Cole on the panel of the pop star search show after the British judge was sensationally dropped but Jeff Haddad who worked on Nicole’s contract negotiations with show bosses before they parted ways thinks Simon wanted Nicole all along.
“In my opinion, Simon always wanted Nicole as a judge,” Jeff told Heat-magazine. “There was never a question that she wouldn’t get it. Nicole was always going to be on that judging panel and Cheryl was just being used as a cog in the wheel to cause hype and publicize the show.
“I had long discussions with Simon about her judging the US show and she was always a front-runner for that job. Cheryl’s name never came into it and Nicole was never supposed to be a host. Her hosting the show was never even mentioned.”
While Cheryl’s strong Newcastle accent was thought to be partly to blame for her leaving the show, Jeff believes it wouldn’t have mattered to the American public.
“There seems to be a lot of suspiciously obvious press surrounding all this mess and it’s all very transparent,” he said. “I think that Cheryl’s accent never came into it it was a cover-up excuse. Americans are used to all sorts of accents and it would have worked in her favor, if anything. Plus, she’s a great girl and an accent wouldn’t have been used in a decision to get rid of her.”
